NIIM Grand Opening Celebration

In November 2009, the National Institute of Integrative Medicine was officially launched with a fantastic opening celebration held at the NIIM premises in Hawthorn East. Orchestrated by dedicated NIIM staff and volunteers, with help from some wonderful organisations, the event was the vehicle for many like minded people to come together in support of a common goal, and learn more about the history and future of the NIIM.

On arrival, guests received a champagne flute of pomegranate juice - known for its immense health benefits – in keeping with the NIIM theme of healthy living.

Staff, families, colleagues and supporters were in attendance to create an audience of around 300 for addresses by Professor Sali, Robert Kirby, Peter Copulos and Grant Moffitt, MC’d by the amazing Beverley Pinder of Rowland Pinder Public Relations.

“We are here today because we each have an interest and an eye on what is fast becoming more than a trend. With statistics showing increasing interest in complementary medicine and research, it places NIIM well to become the success that we as directors know it will be.” Said Peter Copulos. “Avni’s contribution over many decades must not go unnoticed. He has worked tirelessly to bring this concept of a one-stop holistic centre into a reality.”

Robert Kirby discussed his personal experience in Integrative Medicine, which led him to support Avni in his endeavours to establish Integrative Medicine at the forefront of consultation, diagnosis and treatment.

To commemorate this milestone, an official opening plaque was unveiled by Councillor Jack Wegman (Mayor of Boroondara) and Mrs. Anne Kantor. As a thank you to our supporters, a feature wall at reception was designed, showcasing the individuals and corporations who have made NIIM possible.

Musical ambiance was provided by a Year 11 student from Melbourne Grammar School playing cello, while guests were invited to tour the premises. Information placards placed in therapy suites, such the IV Clinic and Thermography rooms, provided snapshots of future developments at NIIM and an overview of the innovative technologies to be available.

Consultation rooms were fitted out with LCD screens featuring video presentations by NIIM practitioners, allowing guests an insight into the work of an Integrative Medical doctor.

Upon departure, guests were treated to a NIIM gift bag packed with information and products for healthy living, as well as a copy of the “Slow Ageing, Fast Living” book, compiled by medical experts including NIIM’s own Dr. Ian Gillam.

NIIM would like to extend a very special thank you to Swisse for providing NIIM gift bags packed with supplement samples, to Koko Black for their donation of chocolate boxes and to Stassen for their donation of organic tea packs, both of which were featured in guest gift bags. Shiraz and Pinot Gris was donated by Yabby Lake winery, organic pomegranate juice was a wonderful contribution from Found Organics, and guests snapped up the organic dark chocolate donated by Loving Earth and organic Spiral Foods crackers supplied by NIIM Nutritional Wholefoods Consultant, Sandra Dubs (OzFoodTrainer). Donated signage, care of Delta Neon, for the NIIM supporters’ and opening plaque was a welcome gift for both NIIM staff and our supporters! And long time supporter, Microhire, generously provided all audio and visual equipment for the event.

Also, to the wonderful volunteers who selflessly donated their time to assist with the event as ushers, food and beverage staff and a myriad of other roles, the team at NIIM extends its heartfelt gratitude.
